Congressman Chris Smith today called upon his colleagues in the U.S. Senate to take swift action on a series of bills that passed this House this week which boost the federal response to the opioid crisis with support for victims and service providers.
The legislation passed this weeks targets $3.3 billion in funding that was part of the 2018 omnibus spending bill signed into law by President Trump earlier this year.
“As the opioid epidemic continues to proliferate, our efforts to treat and prevent this disease at the federal level must be redoubled,” Smith said. “This crisis requires a more aggressive and comprehensive response to the problem, which is exactly what this package of bills will accomplish. The Senate needs to pass this legislation as quickly as possible—the severity of the crisis demands it.” Read the rest of this entry »Posted: June 15th, 2018 | Author: admin | Filed under: 2018 Elections, Chris Smith, Heroin, Monmouth County News, New Jersey | Tags: 2018 elections, 2018 omnibus bill, Congressman Chris Smith, Congressman Leonard Lance, Monmouth County News, New Jersey, Opioid Addiction Crisis, President Donald Trump | Comments Off on Congressman Smith urges Senate to pass legislation combating opioid crisis

Governor Phil Murphy issued a press release this afternoon in which he thanked the federal government for disaster aid associated with the March 6 and 7 winter storm that impacted Bergen, Essex, Morris, Passaic and Somerset counties and kept much of the area in the dark with extended power outages.
Murphy did not mentioned President Donald Trump or FEMA administer Brock Long by name in the release. Former Governor Chris Christie regularly mentioned President Obama when thanking Washington for disaster assistance.
It was nice of the governor to mention the Republicans in New Jersey’s congressional delegation while thanking them for help with “the Trump Administration.”

Rich Pezzullo, the Republican businessman seeking to unseat Congressman Frank Pallone in November, today applauded President Donald Trump for signing the Right to Try Act into law. The new law grants terminally ill patients the right to choose alternative treatment options when they have exhausted all fully FDA-approved treatment options.
President Trump signed the bill this afternoon.
“This is a victory for everyone in America who is struggling with a terminal illness, their families, and their loved ones,” said Pezzullo. “This is a victory for hope.”
Pezzullo said he was “incensed” by Pallone’s vocal opposition to the bill.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 2018 Elections, Frank Pallone, Monmouth County News | Tags: Congressman Frank Pallone, Monmouth County News, President Donald Trump, Rich Pezzullo, Right to try, Right to Try Act | Comments Off on Pezzullo praises Trump for signing “Right to Try” into law; Rips Pallone for his opposition
Kudos to Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop for voluntarily complying with federal Judge Naomi Buchwald’s ruling that public officials are violating the 1st Amendment Rights of their constituents when they block political critics from their social media accounts.
I’ve officially unblocked anyone that was ever blocked from seeing my social media accounts – Anti-semites, racists, trolls, fake accounts, former family members, ppl that hate Jersey City – all are welcome now. I may not like u personally but the law is the law. @realDonaldTrump

While most of Washington and the media was focused on why you see the ads you see on facebook yesterday, Congressman Chris Smith and his colleagues on the House Subcommittee on Global Human Rights were focused on reuniting kidnapped children with their American parents.
Smith, as chairman of the committee, called on the Trump administration to step up where the Obama administration failed by imposing sanctions on countries that are not enforcing court orders, including from their own courts, for families suffering from international parental child abduction.
