With only $3,000 cash on hand, as of September 30, Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal seems to be abandoning his strategy of concentrating on LD 11, and now appears to be focused on protecting his turf in Marlboro.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 2015 Elections, Marlboro, Monmouth County News, Monmouth Democrats, Vin Gopal | Tags: Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick, Jon Hornik, Lt. Oh boy. Things just went from bad to worse for Vin Gopal and the Monmouth County Democrats:
The Latino Coalition Continuing Political Committee (LC-CPC) announced today its support for incumbent Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon because of her forward thinking pledge to modernize the clerk’s office.
“Many of the clerk’s staff are still using typewriters to conduct business on a daily basis,” said Frank Argote-Freyre, Chair of the LC-CPC. “The Latino Coalition believes she is the right person to bring the office into the 21st Century.”
At a meeting with the Coalition, Hanlon pledged to provide more information in Spanish on the county’s website. Hanlon also said she plans to improve the Clerk’s office by adding e-filing, providing more information online, and creating a more mobile friendly office, including a forms portal for online submission of many county forms.
In contrast, her opponent, Democrat Kevin Kane never responded to a request for a meeting with the Latino Coalition.
“Kane has served for many years as a Councilman in Freehold Borough and has done absolutely nothing to improve relations between the immigrant community and the more established residents,” said Argote-Freyre. “When former Mayor Michael Wilson tried to force Latino immigrants from the borough through a series of unethical actions, Kane sat silently and did nothing to foster a climate of understanding.”Art Gallagher | Filed under: Christine Hanlon, Monmouth County News, Vin Gopal | Tags: Christine Giordano Hanlon, Christine Hanlon, Frank Argote-Freyre, Kevin Kane, Latino Coalition Continuing Political Committee, Latino Coaltion, Monmouth County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, Monmouth County News, Monmouth Dems, Vin Gopal | 2 Comments »
The Monmouth County Democratic Party has endorsed incumbent Councilwoman Tara Ryan-Killeen for reelection in the non-partisan municipal election in Highlands on November 3.
In a sponsored advertisement on facebook, Chairman Vin Gopal’s organization lists every nominated Democratic candidate in Monmouth County on the County, State and Municipal levels, plus Ryan-Killeen in the non-partisan election in Highlands. The Democrats did not endorse any candidates in the only other non-partisan election this November, in Tinton Falls, which is uncontested.
Incumbent Councilman Kevin Redmond, who ran with Ryan-Killeen as a Democrat when they ran in 2012, did not receive the endorsement of Gopal’s organization. Highlands changed to non-partisan municipal elections in 2014.
Redmond and Ryan-Killeen appear to be running together, as the share a facebook page, lawn signs and have issued a joint mailer. However, they have different slogans on the ballot.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 2015 Elections, Highlands, Monmouth County News, Monmouth Democrats | Tags: Billy Caizza, Carolyn Broullon, Claudette D'Arrigo, Highlands, Kevin Redmond, Monmouth County News, Monmouth Democrats, Monmouth Dems, Tara Ryan, Tara Ryan-Killeen, Vin Gopal | 5 Comments »
Back in February of 2013, Governor Chris Christie said that Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal practices “the politics of yesterday.”
Gopal had issued a statement threatening Sea Bright Mayor Dina Long with “the restructuring of the Democratic Party in Sea Bright, to ensure that the true voice of Democrats is one that prevails” in response to the news that Long was endorsing Christie’s reelection as governor.
Long has since left the Democratic Party and is running unopposed, as an Independent, for another term as Sea Bright’s mayor. But that is another story.
Since Christie accused Gopal of practicing the politics of yesterday, it has become very clear that Christie was and is practicing politics with an eye towards a future office. Gopal seems to be doing the same.Art Gallagher | Filed under: Monmouth County, Monmouth Democrats, NJ Democrats, Vin Gopal | Tags: Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, Chris Christie, Dina Long, Hudson Democrats, Monmouth County Democrats, Monmouth Dems, Vin Gopal | 7 Comments »
The Monmouth County Democrats held their nominating convention last Monday night at the IBEW Local 400 union hall in Wall Township. However, as of Saturday March 28, no Democratic candidates for Assembly from the four districts that include Monmouth County have filed their nominating petitions with the New Jersey Division of Elections.
The nominating petitions are due with the Divisions of Elections by Monday, March 30th at 4 p.m. Should no candidates file petitions with 100 valid signatures, the Democratic nominations for Assembly will be up for grabs to write-in candidates in the June 2 primary.
There has been radio silence from Monmouth Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal’s office and on his blog since the convention on Monday. Even MMM’s spies at the convention have been mum. The silence has lead many Republicans to speculate that Vin has a problem.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 2015 Legislative Races, Monmouth County, Monmouth Democrats, New Jersey, Vin Gopal | Tags: Assembly candidates, Monmouth Democrats, Monmouth Dems, NJ Division of Elections, Vin Gopal | 20 Comments »
“What for?” ~ Monmouth Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal
Giuseppe “Joe” Grillo, a Democratic candidate for Monmouth County Freeholder and the Chairman of the Asbury Park Democrats, was arrested in Neptune Township on April 28, 2014 on a warrant issued by the Asbury Park Municipal Court.
MoreMonmouthMusings obtained Grillo’s Individual Arrest Record from the Neptune Township Police Department on Friday afternoon.
According to the report, Grillo was arrested by Officer T. Claffey at 10:31 AM on Monday April 28 for violating NJ 2A:10-1C. The report indicates Grillo’s offense was WARO, Warrent Arrest-Other.
The website law.onecle.com defines NJ 2A:10-1C as Contempt. Disobedience or resistance by any court officer, or by any party, juror, witness or any person whatsoever to any lawful writ, process, judgment, order, or command of the court.
The arrest report does not indicate the underlying offense for which Grillo was initially charged or the amount of bail, if any, he was required to post.Art Gallagher | Filed under: 2014 U.S. Senate race, Monmouth County, Monmouth County Board of Freeholders, Monmouth Democrats, New Jersey, Vin Gopal | Tags: 2014 Elections, Asbury Park, Asbury Park Democrats, Giuseppe "Joe" Grillo, Grillo arrest record, Joe Grillo, Larry Luttrell, Lawrence Luttrell, Monmouth County, Monmouth County Democrats, Monmouth Dems, Vin Gopal | 24 Comments »
Monmouth County Democratic Chairman Vin Gopal said that Essex County’s Government is the model he hopes to impose on Monmouth County should he ever win control of the Board of Freeholders.
Gopal and his freeholder candidates Larry Luttrell and Joe Grillo ventured north to Essex this week, hat in hand for money to fund their quest to transform Monmouth into South Essex, according to a report on PolitickerNJ.
“They have done an extraordinary job in Essex County as far as managing a county government, and it’s all Democratic,” Gopal said. “It’s a model for Monmouth to hope to achieve one day.”
Let’s take a look at what that means.
Democratic Mayors Pan Their Freeholder Candidates’ Call For A County Ethics Board
By Art Gallagher
The Monmouth County Democrats have finally put forth a proposal to improve County Government.
It is not a new idea. It is not even a good idea. But at least they have put forth an idea for debate instead of spreading the lies and baseless character assassinations that have comprised their campaign so far this year.
Their campaign had been wholly negative; primarily baseless character attacks on Freeholder Director Lillian Burry. They lied and said Burry hired an unqualified campaign worker for a mental health position. Even after their lawsuit alleging that Burry had a conflict of interest over the Andrew Lucas farmland preservation deal was thrown out of court, they continue to beat that drum. The GOP controlled Freeholder Board has cleaned house at Brookdale Community College since former President Peter Burnham was caught with his hands in the cookie jar. Yet the Democrats have been blaming Burry for Burnham’s transgressions.
Democratic candidate Joe Grillo told The Asbury Park Press that he wants to reinstate a County Ethics Board. I know I’m being generous by saying this is a proposal to improve County Government instead of calling it an excuse to keep talking about the baseless allegations they are making about Burry. But what the heck. MMM is fair and biased. Let’s play along and debunk the idea on its merits.Art Gallagher | Filed under: Monmouth County, Monmouth County Board of Freeholders, Monmouth Democrats, Monmouth GOP, New Jersey | Tags: Amy Handlin, Anna Little, Asbury Park, Asbury Park Press, Belmar, Belmar Mayor Matt Doherty, DCA, Department of Community Affairs, Gary Rich, Joe Grillo, John Curley, Larry Luttrell, Lillian Burry, Local Finance Board, Long Branch, Long Branch Mayor Adam Schneider, Marlboro, Marlboro Ethics Board, Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik, Monmouth Democrats, Monmouth Dems, Neptune Nudniks, New Jersey, Red Bank, Red Bank Mayor Pat Menna | 1 Comment »
If Democratic freeholder candidates Larry Luttrell and/or Joe Grillo come knocking on your door any time in the next seven weeks…invite them in and put them to work!
The Democrats’ campaign is not only fraudulent phone calls, defaming good county employees, and lying about the ethics of distinguished public servants. They are also offering to do household chores for voters as they go door to door.
Yesterday in Aberdeen, Luttrell helped a voter take down a tree!
In Howell last week, Grillo came across a voter who is a customer of his family’s tile business. Giuseppe sealed the guy’s grout for free!Art Gallagher | Filed under: Monmouth County, Monmouth Democrats | Tags: Aberdeen, Howell, Joe Grillo, Larry Luttrell, Monmouth County, Monmouth Democrats, Monmouth Dems | 15 Comments »
Professional pollsters call the tactic “unethical” and “fraudulent”
The Democratic Party is deploying a controversial campaign tactic known as “Push Polling” in Monmouth County on behalf of Senator Cory Booker and their county freeholder candidates. MMM has received reports of such calls being delivered to unsuspecting voters in Shrewsbury, Neptune and Manalapan.
The automated calls, which do not disclose who they are being made on behalf of or who is paying for them, purport to be opinion surveys. If the voter responds that they favor Republican U.S. Senate nominee Jeff Bell rather than Booker, they are subject to a series of “If you knew” questions that distort Bell’s record and lie about his positions.
If the voter responds that they intend to vote for Monmouth County Freeholders Lillian Burry and Gary Rich for reelection, the are subject to “If you knew” questions that accuse the incumbents of unethical hiring practices, dirty dealing on Open Space acquisitions and criticizing the length of their public service in various municipal and county offices.Art Gallagher | Filed under: Cory Booker, Monmouth Democrats | Tags: AAPOR, American Association of Public Opinion Research, Cory Booker, Joe Grillo, Larry Luttrell, Monmouth Democrats, Monmouth Dems, Push Polling, Senator Cory Booker | 17 Comments »
