It’s the first weekend of Local’s Summer. The crowds are gone, the parking is free and Sea Bright Councilman Charlie Rooney wants you to come to the library on Saturday morning for Church music and breakfast.
Rooney is reprising the Saturday Organ music program he hosted at the Sea Bright Methodist Church/Sea Bright Library last spring.
When Rooney was working with the Sea Bright United Methodist Church to have them host the borough’s library after Hurricane Sandy, he was struck with the beauty of the chapel and especially the pipe organ that majestically rises behind the altar.
Rooney learned that an organ’s pipes will deteriorate if they are not played, and the church’s organ wasn’t being used much. To preserve organ and enhance the community, Rooney started hosting recitals on Saturday mornings last Spring. The program was on the first Saturday of the month during the Spring. Rooney said for the Fall season that there will only be two recitals; Saturday September 10 and December 3.
Playing the organ on Saturday will be Don Carolina, the organist of Holy Cross R.C. Church in Rumson. Amy Klein will be the cantor leading the attendees in song.
Saturday’s recital will be dedicated to celebrating the life a Jeff Cupp, the organist of the Sea Bright Methodist Church during the 70′ and 80’s. Rooney said that Cupp had agreed to play this Saturday and then passed suddenly.
The public from Sea Bright and beyond is welcome to attend. The library opens at 9 a.m. Refreshments provided by Caputo’s Bakery, Richard’s Deli and Strokers Deli will be served at 10:30 and the recital will begin and 11 a.m.
